Modern Shoe Hospital saves your “SOLE”

modern_shoe_hospitalsm.jpg
This is Do-it-Yourself Guerilla Marketing at it’s finest. Here is what the copy says. “For over 60 years, the Modern Shoe Hospital has been bringing weary footwear back to life. To remind people of their services, we placed sticky, camouflaged band-aids on sidewalks in front of their store front and outside local shoe shops. The band-aids conveniently stuck to the soles of pedestrians, reminding them there’s a place to bring your ’sick’ shoes.”

Like 30-Rock or Hate it, this product is for you…

to poop on. literally. (oh how could I resist?) Apparently this is a promo that’s running in the Netherlands. All I wanted was a signed copy of “The Rural Juror”.

Zack and Miri make a Poster

Sometimes you can’t do what you want. Okay, a lot of the times you can’t do what you want, but that’s where real creativity comes in right? I think some of the most creative things come out of limitations. When thinking how to properly market the movie “Zack and Miri make a Porno” one can guess that problems might abound for obvious reasons.
Now what do you show for images? This is a funny story about people making a porno to pay off the rent, not a porno per se, but the images, and suggestion still surrounds it. So marketing had to get creative. This poster and outdoor were the solution, bringing the idea into a totally creative and non-offensive realm. I like this look too, because I like minimalism an I’m a sucker for terrible illustration a la, Don Hertzfeldt. So a creative solution in a limited environment. Let’s hope the film is as memorable as the marketing surrounding it.

And just because, here is Don Hertzfeldt’s cartoon titled “Billy’s Balloon”. It is 5 minutes long but worth every second.

IPhone doesn’t cease to amaze…

my friend Adam showed me this one day and I was floored. What a cool idea for something that probably happens to all of us too often. Apple and the iPhone are just a vehicle for all of the other developers out there creating software to work on this device, and being creative about it.

Jones-en for Soda

I’ve always liked The Jones Soda Company’s marketing. I’ve considered it smart, bold and off the chart when it comes to the industry they’re in. So when my wife came home with some “treats” the other day, I was as interested in the packaging (grabbing my camera) as I was in trying out the curiously titled “Candy Corn” and “Buried Pomegranate” flavors labeled on the half-sized cans. Jones has been offering unique packaging and flavor choices for awhile. For Thanksgiving a few years ago they had flavors that included: Mashed Potato & Butter, Bean Casserole, Fruitcake, Cranberry and Turkey & Gravy. Yes these are actual drinkable sodas. For real. Jones is to soda, what Jelly Belly is to candy. (Which coincidentally I also love.)

And Don’t Forget your FREE cup of Joe.

And after the polls, don’t forget to grab your FREE cup of Starbucks coffee. A tasty reminder to do your duty.

Don’t Vote. Things are fine.

Looking at these stirs me and has an effect. (Like any conscious American with a soul.) It’s NOT vote for _______, it’s just vote PERIOD. The simple approach of focusing on one topic and using it to catapult the overall message I think is genius. Commercialism of our country, Foreign countries selling to us and competing with us, Healthcare, it’s all here, but represented in concise little visual packages that push buttons. Just try to ignore this message they say. Powerful. Happy Voting. (Hopefully.)
