Someone Still Loves You Boris Yeltsin

What a terrible name for a band, but does that really matter when I love love love them? There is something charming about how this small group from Missouri attacks songs. SSLYBY writes in a way that is both earnest/honest and catchy like a rash. You should probably buy a bucket of ointment before listeing. (A BIG bucket.) Their third album came out yesterday entitled, “Let It Sway,” and if it is half as good as the first two, it’ll be golden. It was recorded in Madison with Chris Wallo of Death Cab for Cutie fame, and it means that people in the right places are taking notice. Here is a short video about them and the new offering. (You can thank me later.)

Smell Like a Man Man

Man I love these Old Spice ads. There creative, funny and super clever. This is one of the boldest yet.

What is Your Persception of REALITY?

What is real or fake in movies or TV? If you fall under the “If it looks real, it’s real.” category then you’re in for a shock. CGI has been really creeping into movies in the last 10 years, it allows movies to film at cheaper costs because they don’t have to build sets, or shoot on location. We’ve all known this, it’s no big surprise. But to me CGI is recognized in crazy unbelievable scenes, and airplane crashes, and aliens and other worlds. It’s now creeping into TV, but in ways you don’t know. Some television shows have been getting more noticeably movie like in appearance - Dramas like 24, Heros, CSI-whatever and the like. Well they need to save money too, so they have been incorporating shooting on green/blue screens and filling in the details of things that we normally wouldn’t realize was CGI’d. Normal everyday things like city landscapes and public monuments, and walking down a street. Really. Watch this clip from Stargate’s work on some shows and be in awe, but BEWARE you are now given a choice; Like the movie The Matrix, you can take the blue pill or the red pill at this point. The choice is yours. Take the blue pill, back out of this post, don’t watch this clip and go about your life - unaware. OR, take the red pill, watch this clip and you stay in wonderland, realize what is happening to your favorite shows, and sadly can’t go back. Your choice.

Simple and Captivating

Here is a very simple and straight forward video from Sam Beam/Iron and Wine using some captivating dance in a unique setting to complement a not so straight forward song. I think the combination of these makes for a simple but semi-sureal experience.

Procrastination is not being able to finish somethi

This is brilliant. I think I say that a lot on this blog, but then again I’m trying to bring you the most brilliantest stuff I find. This is one of them.

Old Spice Will Rock Your World

This Old Spice commercial is fun, creative and needs to be watched a few times to be absorbed. Since Bruce Campbell of “Evil Dead” fame starred in a few of these a year or two ago where every lady said “Ahoy”, I knew Old Spice was changing their marketing. This spot changes the concept since then and launches it into a little more absurd, but highly entertaining territory.”Two tickets to that thing that you like”, something that every woman wants to hear. Classic.

Snickers Really Satisfies with new spots

Loved the Betty White/Abe Vigoda Snickers spot when it was shown during the Super Bowl. Saw this new one last night during the olympics with Aretha Franklin and Liza Minelli. I think this is a great concept that uses “classic” celebrities that are reawakened in front of our eyes, (Abe Vigoda is still alive?), for surprise and extra effect. Can’t wait to see what else is in their bag.
